VR Gaming, VZFit, where it all began

It all started quite innocently. I was on Facebook and had scrolled past an ad for a virtual reality game called VZFit. I had no idea that virtual reality was readily available and never dreamed I'd own a VR headset. I kept seeing the ad, and I kept scrolling past. At that point, I was riding my exercise bike about 30 minutes a day and I was getting reallllly bored!

One day, I finally clicked on that ad. The rest is history. I immediately ordered myself an Oculus Quest 2, and the rest is history. For almost a year, VZFit was the only app I used. I bought an app c but I couldn't get the hang of it, so it just sat. I LOVED VZFit! With VZFit, I rode many, many miles, all over the world. The app takes pictures from Google Earth and stitches them together in some magical way that makes it so that you are IN that place, riding your bike! You can apparently use it while walking, but I've always ridden my bike, so I can't talk to the walking. Biking is so important to me, for my health, and this app has made it so easy to stay engaged.

Smitten, hooked, over my head, can't stop. That's how I describe my VR journey. It's been a wild ride, literally! VZFit is still the cornerstone of my VR life, and where it all started. I've even invested in the company, that's how much I believe in their product! I became friends with several people in the VZFit community, and we all follow each other on Strava. I love it! It added accountability and more. I really never dreamed that 3 years later, I'd still be using my bike, even more, and still be loving VR! Who knew?!

staying on track when you get sick

I don't know about you, but about once a year, I get sick. I mean, really sick. Like, kill me now sick. Sure, it's just a cold usually, but it's a cold with big teeth that clings and fights back when I fight it. :)  This year, that happened about a week ago. Usually when it happens, I just get push on and do my best to get through it, but, to be honest, usually, I'm not a DDP Yoga Diva with workouts to do!  This year, that's me.

Last Friday, I had a great workout. I mean, a *great* workout. I was in my zone, I was doing all of my moves, I felt great. By Friday night, I was falling over, thinking "no no no, I am not getting sick" while I changed into my favorite pjs and crawled into bed at 5:30 at night. (No, I don't do that normally! Especially not on Friday night, that's date night!)

I spent the first part of the week totally frustrated because I just could not get moving. I had to admit defeat and just loll around, trying to drink enough water, and eat properly. I finally made an agreement with myself that, no matter what happened, I was going to do my best and it would be enough. I was not going to fret over not working out, and I was not going to fret about my eating.

Having said all of this, I DID do WakeUp every day. Every morning, I did my best to at least stretch. I also did various little moves throughout each day, because, you know what? It felt good. It felt good to move just a bit and try to keep things loose.

Around Wednesday, I dumbly decided I was "better enough." Thursday was my day to get back to workouts. Ha. Thursday morning I woke up and the weather had changed, and I was back to not so hot, no way is this happening. So I relaxed a bit more and waited it out. Friday was not much better, if not a bit worse.

Today is Saturday, I think I am finally just about better. If the day continues to feel like it does now, I'll do Energy this evening. If not, then tomorrow I'll do Energy. I'm definitely on the mend, thankfully, and will gratefully return to DDP Yoga in the immediate future. Go me!

The moral of the story? Why this post? Because I think it's important to accept that this is a journey, not a race. It's okay to get sick, and it is definitely okay to take care of yourself and get healthy. Trying to push through might work for some people, but I think, for some of us, at least, (and yes, maybe those of us over 50), it's wiser to slow down and take the time to take care and feel better.

Have a wonderful day!

right now. right here. present.

It's been a really long time since I blogged. I have been busy. Right. I have made *choices* that did not involve blogging. Let's be honest. Well, it's time to put blogging back into the equation. SO much is going on. SO very much. And I think it deserves the attention of my blog.

For the past few years, I've been "wallowing". I have had some issues with plantar fasciitis and I decided to let it control my life. I essentially gave up on exercising, because it was too hard.

In June of this year, through a dear friend, I found a program called DDP Yoga. It is a form of "power yoga" incorporating isometrics, yoga, and other moves designed to strengthen and improve your health. It is actually more of a physical rehabilitation program than an exercise program. I tried it on a dare, thinking "what if" it worked. I figured I had nothing to lose.

I was wrong.

I've been actively doing this program since June 22, 2013. I am currently down 35 inches and 28 pounds. It's crazy how strong I am now, and how good my balance is. Best of all, my heels are healing! Yes! Really. Here's a photo of me, taking about 3 weeks ago, which shows how much my flexibility has increased.

It's hard to share photos like this. Really. But you know what? If ONE person reads this blog and decides to change their life, then I'm happy.
